STEM (K-12) (continued)
Micron
Lesson Plans
Micron believes that supporting math and science education is critical
to cultivating tomorrow’s technology leaders. That’s why Micron
provides teachers with opportunities and tools designed to excite students
about science, math, and engineering using hands-on, real-world applications.
In addition to content rich Web resources, Micron provides classroom presenters,
workshops and site visits in Idaho and Virginia. As well, Micron provides
an interactive Web resource to introduce students to high-tech career
options.
Missouri
METS
The METS Alliance is a coalition of business, education and community
leaders appointed by Governor Matt Blunt to boost student achievement
in math, engineering, technology and science.
NASA's
Robotics Alliance Project
This website provides links and information to the major robotics competitions
and associated curriculum. The NASA Robotics Alliance Project supports
a series of robotics competition programs, facilitates robotics curriculum
enhancements at all educational levels, and is developing a national clearinghouse
for robotics education and career resources.
The
National Alliance of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions (NASSMC)
The National Alliance of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions (NASSMC)
is an umbrella organization for state coalitions of business, education
and public policy leaders united for systemic change in science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM) education for all students. NASSMC
is a network of state coalitions and serves as the national advocate for
the member organizations.
PBS
Teachers - Science and Technology Resources from PBS
Summaries of on-air and online resources organized by subject and or topic.
Raise
Pac - Projects
RASEM2 is providing the means, support and encouragement for students
with disabilities to overcome the educational barriers they face in considering
science, engineering, math and technology careers.
ROBOLAB:
The educational software for LEGO MINDSTORMS for schools
Tufts Robolab website offers curriculum for LEGO Robots plus
many other robotics resources.
SAM Animation
SAM is software designed to give students the power of making stop-action
animations to share their ideas and understanding. The environment provides
an alternative expressive medium for science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics education that allows students to match their learning
styles to the way the present and communicate ideas. SAM is very much
a project in development and thus feedback, discussion, and ideas are
welcome.
SMETE Digital
Library
The SMETE Digital Library is a dynamic online library and portal of services
by the SMETE Open Federation for teachers and students. Here you can access
a wealth of teaching and learning materials as well as join this expanding
community of science, math, engineering and technology explorers of all
ages.
Star
Wars Activities
Activity downloads support local and national science, math, and technology
literacy standards. You can view the educational standards related to
a given activity by clicking the link. Educator downloads are appropriate
as either classroom or at-home family activities. They are ideal for children
in grades 3 - 8, but can be modified for other audiences.
STEM:
Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of
Washington
In this video presentation, students and faculty highlight exciting academic
programs offered at the University of Washington. The commitment of the
University to provide a learning environment for students with diverse
characteristics regarding racial/ethnic backgrounds, gender and disability
is clear. The presentation is open-captioned and audio-described to assure
access to the content for viewers who are deaf or blind, respectively
(Run Time: ~9:51 minutes).
STEPS:
Science Technology & Engineering Preview Summer Camp for Girls
This camp is a one-week introduction to the exciting world of
technology and engineering. STEPS camps are residential, and campers will
participate in a variety of workshops that will give them hands-on experience
with high-tech equipment and processes.
SWE
Internet Activities Center
In the Internet Activities Center you will find a series of Lesson Plans
with hands-on and interactive computer activities designed for young women
grades 5-8 and above. The materials meet the National Science Standards
while introducing basic engineering skills such as drafting, using tools,
deductive skills and the scientific method.
TEACH Engineering:
Resources for K-12
The TeachEngineering digital library provides teacher-tested, standards-based
engineering content for K-12 teachers to use in science and math classrooms.
Teacher's
Domain - Engineering
Explore the wide world of engineering with innovative multimedia resources
from NOVA, Building Big, ZOOM, NASA, and more. This site includes multi-media
resources and lesson plans for engineering disciplines.
TEAMS
TEAMS is not a straight math competition. TEAMS involves mathematical
understanding and science reasoning, as well as creativity and analytical
and writing skills… much like the work of real engineers!
TekBots
The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) is making
a fundamental change in the way we teach engineering concepts to students.
We're innovating teaching and learning by energizing the curriculum with
exciting, hands-on platforms for learning.® Our aim is to put the
fun and excitement into EECS and thus retain and inspire interest among
students in engineering. Unique to Oregon State and seed-funded by Tektronix,
this program helps students understand how class content is interconnected.
It also gives them hands on experience in applying theoretical concepts
to their robots, turning theories into realities.
TryEngineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
TryEngineering.org is a resource for students (ages 8-18), their parents,
their teachers and their school counselors. This is a portal about engineering
and engineering careers with hopes hope it will help young people understand
better what engineering means, and how an engineering career can be made
part of their future.
UNITE
The UNITE program is targeted toward high school students and helps prepare
them for college through summer classes. Through academic classes, hands-on
activities, and team-based learning, the students explore the connections
between math and science and real world applications.
WEPAN
- K-12 Programs
Making the Connection includes a Presenter's Guide, Activities, Newsletters
and a CD of hands-on activities. All materials in addition to the CD of
hands-on activities are available for purchase in the publications store.
