Resource of the Month
SAMPLES™ Program

The SAMPLES™(Sandia Agile MEMS Prototyping, Layout Tools, Education and Services) Program is a way to provide customers access to the revolutionary MicroElectroMechanical System (MEMS) using SUMMiT V technology developed at Sandia National Laboratories.

The objective of the SAMPLES™ Program is to enable customers to develop their own innovative products by leveraging advanced design, fabrication, and characterization technologies originally developed for National Laboratory applications. Participants can attend short courses, design new devices, and have those designs fabricated in our state-of-the-art fabrication facility.

A Review of National Engineers Week 2006

February 19-25 marked National Engineers Week 2006. Engineers Week is a formal coalition of more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. Dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers’ positive contributions to quality of life, National Engineers Week promotes recognition among parents, educators and students of the importance of a technical education.

A website, eweek.org, has been developed that contains a host of information and resources for educators, students of all ages, and parents. Numerous marketing products are available for ordering on the site that highlight "Engineers Make a World of Difference."

During Engineers Week, events are planned all over the country to expose young people to the exciting and rewarding field of engineering. The NCME participated in Sinclair Community College's annual "Engineers Day" on February 24. 190 high school students visited the college and were introduced to the many different engineering programs offered by the Engineering and Industrial Technologies division at Sinclair.
